5th Wheel Movers

Tuesday Hal moved a 5th wheel for someone down the street over to the next street, the guy did not have the blocks for under the jacks, so he put cement blocks and bricks under them. Of course the weight of the 5th wheel put cracks in the blocks. So the guy went out yesterday to get wood and Hal went over and hooked it back up to the truck to lift it off the cement and put the wood under the jacks.
Today we went to the park we were in last year and moved a friend's 5th wheel over to the lot beside us. She isn't here yet, but she was paying for 2 spaces, doesn't make sense, so we moved it before she comes down from Oregon.
Tonight is New Year's Eve, so we can stay in and relax, a little drink, shrimp, cheese and crackers to ring in the New Year.
Happy New Year to all!!!

Rock and Roll City

I bet everyone thinks that New York or Cleveland is Rock and Roll City, but today, Yuma was. We were at the laundromat when an earthquake occurred. It actually happened somewhere along the California and Mexico border, and they have happened before, but this is the first one we have felt. Kind of a strange feeling. I was sitting down and thought maybe someone had a washer that was out of balance causing the vibration, but soon realized what it was, we also felt an after shock. It was 5.9 on the Riechter (sp.?) scale.

Christmas Morning

Kids are the same no matter what species. Hobbes was into the presents during the night, and very anxious to open his presents when morning came.

He got a wooly mouse stuffed with catnip and some special cat food. As you can tell he loves the mouse.

Merry Christmas

A very merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year to everyone who reads this. Our Christmas day will be cool but hopefully sunny. I am coking dinner for us, rather than go to a pot luck or a restaurant. It will be just H, Hobbes, and I. We hope that where ever you are, the season is all that you hope for and you will be surrounded by family and friends.

House of Illness

Of course, H got sick, too. I am over the sneezing and constantly sniffling, H has that now. I just kept coughing to the point I was having rib pain, so I started a Z-Pack yesterday. I feel better except now I have stomach upset from the antibiotics. H had a fever yesterday, but none today. Hope he doesn't get the cough like I have. He can sleep when I am coughing because he is hard of hearing. I am a light sleeper, so if he coughs, I don't sleep. We both feel well enough to go out, but get light headed at times. I think that is from the fatigue.
Cannot believe that it is one week until Christmas. We decided we are going to stay in for Christmas, I am cooking. We will be going home in January for a belated Christmas with our family.

Ballet and Country

The lights we put up a before the wind made put the awning up, the lights are now just on the Moose. We haven't put the awning back down, yet. Just enjoying the sun coming in the door.Below is the a picture of the Ballet Yuma's program for the "Nutcracker" , which we went to Friday evening. It was very good.

Of course the other picture is of Dierks Bentley, we went to his concert at the Q on Saturday evening. He put on quite a show. Of course I would have enjoyed everything more if I wasn't ill. I caught a cold last week, spent all day Friday in bed, chilling and running a fever, I still went to the ballet. Saturday, no fever, but still felt horrible, couldn't miss the concert, though. I think I am getting bronchitis, need to break out the antibiotics.
Hope no one caught this cold from me.

Windy

Monday evening we just about got blown away. We had not heard on the weather about any high winds, but they came. Our awning was out with Christmas lights on it, it was strapped down tight, but after about an hour of wind gusts up 50MPH, the straps kept loosening. We got our neighbors, Rob and Patty to help us put the awning up. It took all of us to do it, the wind was so strong and kept blowing sand and gravel at us. We did get it put up safely, but yesterday we had to wash everything outside as they were covered with spotted dirt and sand. The truck will get washed today, all the car washes had terrible lines yesterday.
Yesterday was sunny, as is today, it is still cool, but as long as the sun is out life is good.

Welcome Back Party

We went with some of our neighbors to Los Algondones,Mexico on Saturday for their welcome back festival they have for winter visitors. They had free entertainment, free food and drinks. Only thing was, it was freezing in the morning, 42 degrees and breezy. It did get up to about 63, but the sun was mostly obscured by clouds, so it never felt warm. It was fun, but we waited 1 hour and 15 minutes to get back across the border.
Today is cloudy, cool, and has rained a little.

Wildlife Refuge

These are some more pix that I took last Monday when we went to the Painted Desert Trail and the Wildlife Refuge.

I love going out to see the many different looks of Arizona.

Painted Desert Trail

Yesterday we went north of Yuma to the Imperial Wildlife Refuge and walked the Painted Desert Trail. It is called this due to the elements causing different colors in the rocks and ground. Reds are from iron, greens from copper, and the whites, I don't know. Above is a small lizard, you may have to click on pic to bring it up bigger.

This rock formation is from two washes converging. As the water rushed down, it eroded this rock.

This trail is only 1.3 miles, but takes awhile due to climbing over rocks and walking thru loose sand. We did not see any rattlesnakes, scorpions, tarantulas, or spiders. Yeah!

Another Sunny Day!

Our hummingbirds are loving the feeder. We have it hanging on the support for the awning, so it is just beside the picnic table, they will come to eat when we are there, and sometimes buzz under the awning, just above our heads.

H did an addition to the Moose today. We have Direct TV, but cannot get the local stations because we get them back home. We connected the Moose's antenna, but CBS didn't have a very good signal no matter how we turned it. Our neighbor tried beer cans on his antenna, but didn't help, probably because they were lite beer. So he made a new antenna, H got the directions from Rob and made one today. The signal is strong on every station, plus we can get some extra stations we couldn't get before. This is connected to our new TV, the other TV is on Direct TV.

Brr!

We had a cold front come thru Yuma, yesterday the wind blew most of the day, temp was only 73 degrees, but felt colder due to wind. It is 72 today so far, but wind still blowing a little. The furnace even came on last night. But the rest of the week will be beautiful, sunny all week and no wind. Yeah!!.

Monday in California

Early Monday morning we took off for San Diego, H wanted to shorten the trip by taking a turn off onto Rt. 79. Distance may be shorter for where we were going, but the road is a constant turning, twisting maze. Actually took us longer to get to Christa's.

We went to Coronado to have lunch at the Coronado Hotel and walk on the beach. The day was beautiful except for a marine haze that hung over the coast all day.

Christa on the phone. This is where we ate, outside on the deck.

This tree is in a previously burned out area on our long twisting road. We stayed until about 9PM then drove back to Yuma. It was a fast rip back, hardly any traffic. Up in the mountains it is so dark, looking up at the stars was amazing, one can see stars that can never be seen near a city.

Sunset in Yuma

Last night was a beautiful sunset after a cloudy cool day, the sun came out about half-hour before sunset. I wish I could paint, the colors out here can be spectacular.

Hummingbird

We put up a feeder 2 days ago, finally today the hummingbirds found it, actually we put another one up on the back window, it has not been used yet.

Today we restrung this day/night shade, it broke the day we arrived. H ordered the supplies and they came yesterday. We used the computer for step by step instructions. We were putting it back together when the power went off, considering it was 93 degrees today, it can get warm inside without the air on. we turned on the generator, not for air conditioning, but decided it would be a good time to run it for a while. Power was back on within the hour.
The moon coming up before sunset on Monday night.
As evening approaches, the foothills take on a golden appearance, really pretty.
Our neighborhood.
