Ohio

Well I am finally getting better. My cough is not keeping me awake all night and I am breathing easier. Just in time to go back to Texas. Staying with the kids has been fun most of the time. Would have been better if I had felt like playing games. I did play several ping pong games with Griffin, but I was no challenge for him. Ellery went to a Christian concert last night and got home about 2250, by the time she got to bed it was late. She did not want to get up this morning. Can't say as I blame her, I am not a morning person either. Griffin gets up every morning during the week at 0600 so he can read. Everyone is different.

The weather here has not bothered me too much, though this AM is dreary and not sunny like it has been. I don't really mind the cold as long as the wind doesn't blow. Those wind chills are what get you. Ohio has it's beautiful moments. I love the spring and the autumn.

H seems to be doing alright without me in Texas, he went on Saturday to visit with cousins who are visiting in Smithville, TX. He took the Wii, and they had a good time playing all the games we had.

Back in Ohio

I returned to Ohio on the 19th to stay with 2 of our grandchildren while our daughter and son-in-law went on a private cruise. It has been a chilly visit. O degrees this AM, but went up to 27 by afternoon. Tonight we have a winter weather advisory with snow followed by freezing rain possible tomorrow AM. I nee to be back where it is warm. Too bad I can't just pack the kids up and take them with me. School might be upset with that. Besides it being cold here, I was ill when I came. I went to see the nurse practitioner the day after I arrived, am now on Levaquin and Prednisone, feeling better but had nearly lost my voice today. Maybe I was talking too much. Tomorrow I am staying here at the house, doing laundry and cleaning and hopefully a nap. The kids might have a snow day, so I will have help with cleaning.

I have taken advantage of being home, the taxes are done and I can pick them up next week. I hope to talk with some high school classmates to see what is on the agenda for this years class reunion. I won't say how many years, but since I am retired you can probably guess pretty close.

No pictures today, I left my camera in Texas, I will borrow Elle's camera, hopefully I will be able to work it.

Illness

Valentine's Day night was not much fun. I started feeling ill about 8PM then diarrhea and vomiting ensued. I have not been this sick since I had food poisoning a long time ago. I was sick all night, remember RVs have tiny bathrooms. I even had a fever, I never get fevers. Good thing H was here, I certainly needed help.

Now H is getting sick, he has a sore throat and cough. I started him on Zicam, Vitamin C and rest.

We had a good day on Valentine'Day, we went to New Braunfels and had a late luch at The Gristmill, a very old building that was originally a gristmill, then a cotton gin until it burned in 1925. It was rebuilt in another area. This building has a lot of the old features. The brick and old wood they have added it makes it a really nice place. We ate outside overlooking the river. Then we walked around the town a little bit.

It rained a little yesterday, a lot during the night, and possibility of thunderstorms this afternoon. Then I hope it clears up. It is chilly today.

Long Trip.

We are now in San Marcos, TX, just north of San Antonio. We drove 1100 miles over 3 days and 2 nights from Yuma, AZ to Texas. It was hard for us and the cat. Hobbes hates being in the truck, but I let him roam around in the truck with the leach on, which made him less agitated. He slept most of the time on the back seat or on my lap. Cat hair everywhere. Well tomorrow we get to clean up the truck and get groceries.

It is warm here today, don't know what the forecast is for the next week, but since this is Texas, it should be warm. The campground is small compared to the one in Yuma, but seems pleasant, plus it has a river running thru it where one can fish. We have a few things to set up, yet, so tomorrow will be busy.

Their were 8, 1 did the announcing after he came down. 3 of them were from Ohio. Massilon, Cleveland, and Lima.

This was at the beginning of the rodeo. I will put pictures of the rodeo on tomorrow.

Hummingbird

Female hummingbird keeping gaurd over her nest.
She is sitting on her nest, this area is in the wash just across the road from our campground.
Another angle of the nest.
Can just barely see her.
A view from below.

I tried to get a shot of the egg she was sitting on, but I couldn't get it down low enough to be able to look thru the lens and see the egg. Just click on the picture to enlarge so you can see the bird better.

More Yuma Prison

Christa by the Colorado River.
Walls of the Yuma Prison.

Colorado River.

Narrowest part of the river, this is the Yuma Crossing, the only place safe enough to cross the river to west back in the ole west times.
The stone part of this structure was original gaurdhouse and water source.

Super Bowl Day

This is H's last jigsaw puzzle he put together, his last for a while, it ties up the table and we can't eat there.
Denise (my niece) and her husband Ron came down from Phoenix Friday to stay overnigth.
Denise and Ron.

Denise and Ron came down Friday after work. We went to downtown Yuma for the Mardi Gras, ate a little Gumbo and had sausage sandwichs (very spicy sandwich), walked around a little then went back to Moose. We played a game of marbles then just talked. They went back to Phoenix about noon on Saturday.

Then Christa arrived about 1430 from San Diego to visit for a while. We ate at Cracker Barrel because she loves them and there are none in California. She did not stay long. We went to the Yuma Territorial Prison to tour it but they were ready to close, so we just took a few pictures. She went back to CA just as it was getting dark. I worried about her driving over the mountains after dark, I talked to her later and she said the wind had been terrible, people were weaving all over the road due to wind gusts. It was great to see her again.

We went to see a local production of "Oliver" in the old Yuma Theatre. Many children it the cast, Oliver was played by an 11 year old who had a good voice just not very strong, the Artful Dodger was played by a 12 year old who is multi-talented, he dances, sings, and acts. He had a really great voice, as well as many other of the cast members. Over-all, for a small local group, I thought it was really good.
