Terry and Elle going out to boogie board.
The waves don't look that big in this picture, but they were really rough.
View from Hale' Ani, (pronounced Holly Ahnee) the house Terry and Nikki are renting. It was getting toward late afternoon and had clouded up, so it looks a little dark.Today was beautiful, we all got up early and went snorkeling at Poipu Beach Park, a little rough, so getting out over the rocks to deeper water was sometimes painful. The fish are used to being fed so they come right up to you, any color you could imagine. We ate a late lunch, then H and I stayed at the house to read and rest a little, Nikki and family went boogie boarding again, Elle got hit with a huge wave that knocked her off her board, she ran into Terry her cheek near her eye hit his nose then she went under water beneath him and her foot got tangled in her rope(a scary moment) she finally came up. They both are using ice bags so they won't bruise. The weather is supposed to be mostly sunny for the next 5 days, yeah! Oh, two monk seals were up on the beach this morning, then one young monk seal came up on the rocks across the road from the house this afternoon. Nikki got lots of pictures, I will get them loaded and put them on the blog tomorrow.
Sunday was our only sunny day so far here in Kauai. Monday was very cloudy with periods of heavy rain. This AM is looking promising, partly cloudy, sun is peeking out. We are going to tour some of the island today, but we have to watch out for flooded roads, there has been a tremendous amount of rain throughout the islands in the last few days with many people losing there homes. I have taken some pictures but cannot load them on the computer without my printer connection, so I will either wait for Nikki to arrive with her connection or go to Walmart and make a CD of the pics. Actually Walmart is one of our stops today as we go around the island. We changed rooms yesterday, we woke up Monday morning to lots of noise in the room above us, thinking it was just inconsiderate neighbors, we waited. The noise continued, so I called the front desk, the noise was workmen doing remodeling in several rooms above us and it will go on all week. So we moved to the top floor with a much better view of the ocean, we can now see all the way back to the cove and watch the surfers from our lanai.
Yesterday we arrived in Kauai, HI for 2 weeks. It was raining, but it is so lush and beautiful here. The flight was mostly uneventful, some turbulence at times, but went fast. About 30 minutes before landing a man in First Class created a turmoil, not sure if he was drunk, off his medications, or drank with medications when he shouldn't have, but he wouldn't sit down, walked into the flight attendants area and wouldn't cooperate, he hit 2 attendants, then several big men ran forward and subdued him. There was a pilot in the back of the plane (just traveling) who came forward to assist, they got the man handcuffed, but they had to practically sit on him to get him down in the seat, then they tied him in. Two men stayed there to keep him in place. We were in row 6, so I could see everything. Another man from First Class came to sit with us, told us the man had been drinking during the whole flight. When you are in the air, it is a little scarier, because one never knows what another person will do. But I'm glad to see so many men who were on the aisle seats ran forward to help. H was by the window so he couldn't get up fast enough. This morning it was cloudy when we first got up, but since then has gotten sunny, even with no sun, it is too beautiful to stay inside, so I am off to take some pictures.
Christa and Bart came from San Diego for a visit on their way to Phoenix. They came Friday afternoon. We went to see Australia at the movies last evening, went to the flea market this AM, had lunch, then they were off to Phoenix until Sunday PM. It was good to see them. Christa was home to Ohio in August, but hadn't seen Bart since last January.
